Back Home

This is Thursday morning and I am sitting in my living room at home looking out over the beautiful Saint John River with a nice big cup of dark roasted coffee and mentally reviewing my activities over the past few days.

Late last night I returned from Ottawa after a few days of meetings with the Canada Council for the Arts.  I am on the Board of Directors of the Canada Council and we meet four times a year.  The meetings cover a range of council activities with particular emphasis on future direction and planning.  These recent January meetings were particularly charged with discussions surrounding a proposed completely revamped granting system.  The meeting also included our Annual Public Meeting (APM) on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The Canada Council for the Arts is a Federal Crown Corporation and falls within the Department of Heritage and Official Languages.  The Minister of this department, The Honourable Shelly Glover, generously spoke at out APM.  A large number of the public attended the meeting which was held at the Canada Council offices at 150 Elgin Street.  More information on the meeting (including a video) and other information about the Canada Council can be found on their website: www.canadacouncilforthearts.ca

Now, here I am back at home enjoying a quiet morning, catching up on Downton Abby and regearing myself to life as an artist.  I had a new egg tempera painting on the go when I left my studio last week and it will be waiting for me to have a conversation with it when I return.

Sounds like you have been one busy man. I have to agree it is always nice to travel but soooo good to be back home. There is just something comforting about the familiar surroundings of ones' own things.
